PostSubject: Arrgghhh - dinner times are becoming a nightmare!!!!!   Mon Nov 08, 2010 7:35 pm

So Libby has a good breakfast, a whole banana mashed with some rice crispies/cornflakes or sugar puffs, it's a huge bowlful and she eats the lot, she then has a 1 slice of bread sandwich with cheese/ham etc in it with a packet of wotsits or similar and a box of raisins, then a little snack in the afternoon.

She had been eating her dinner really well until the weekend and they have just turned into a tantrum!! For example, Friday she didn't want to eat because she wanted to play with fridge magnets, tonight she wanted sauce with her tea (it was tuna pasts bake Neutral ), she only has sauce with her dinner about once a week and threw a massive paddy because she wanted it tonight and we said no Mad

I know she is pushing her luck but it's so hard not giving in to her because otherwise she won't eat (and she really cannot afford to lose weight!)

Does anyone have any advice??? xxx

Does she ask for the sauce or is she prompted cos she see's it in sight at meal times? Oliver does this too as we sometimes have the sauce on the table..but I just give him a wee bit..OH has sauce with everything so for me to turn round to him and say no when daddys dinner is caked (he wants to be just like daddy Rolling Eyes )

The way i'm going at the moment is to 'just go with it' I know alot people believe in 'start as you mean to go on' (believe me, I did too!) but after seeing there are so many mummies in the same position as me - sometimes just getting my LO to eat, thats all I care about.

Sorry i'm not much help. x

Already mentioned in other thread but Caitlin going through a similar thing with ketchup atm. Its probably worse for you because libby can ask for it, whereas Caitlin generally doesnt fuss until she see's it or we are stupid enough to give her a tiny bit and then its all she wants to eat eg fingers of sauce to lick but no actual food.

I think im going to have to stop putting it on table. Oh & I like garlic mayo but Caitlins never had it before and doesnt reach for it.

Id agree & say just go with it for now. Maybe start putting less and less in until she is getting a tiny amount.

The one thing I live in fear of is Caitlin losing her teeth. I know this is a dramatic example but I watched a childrens hospital documentary once and a young girl had to get about 6 baby teeth extracted under general anasthetic due to her sugary diet. The main cause was ketchup. The child got through 2 btls a week on her own. Her mum let her put it on everything! Thats extreme but. I really dont think mayo on one meal a day will do any harm! xxx

Haha nope the clever little madam knows it's in the fridge!!! She hadn't even seen it but was asking constantly for it and getting more and more angry when I said no Rolling Eyes

Like I said Snoopy, Libby was a tomato sauce lover but all of a sudden wanted mayo, I think she saw us have it one day and decided she wanted it Rolling Eyes

It really difficult ignoring the tantrums because they seem to escalate really quickly and then it takes longer for her to calm down, tonight I gave in and gave her a tiny bit and even spread it over her food but she sat there with her fork and scrapped it off to eat it Mad she then asked for an apple - we didn't have any so tried to give her a pear in her playroom while watching Noddy and eventually she ate that.

Last night I thought why the hell do I want to go through all this again!!! Laughing
